In our renovation, the original footprint and key features of the typical orchard house were meticulously preserved. The white-washed exterior walls and terracotta tile roof were refurbished, maintaining the building’s iconic silhouette against the backdrop of orange groves. A charming green-painted wooden door was retained as a nod to the home’s agricultural heritage.

The ground floor was reimagined as an open-plan living space, strategically connecting the interior with the lush surrounding landscape. Large windows and sliding glass doors were introduced to flood the space with natural light and provide seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The kitchen, designed as the heart of the home, features locally-sourced stone countertops and custom cabinetry that echoes traditional Spanish craftsmanship.

A carefully reconstructed staircase, adorned with traditional ceramic tiles, leads to the second floor where four bedrooms offer tranquil retreats with views over the orchard. The master suite includes a private terrace, allowing residents to fully immerse themselves in the rural setting.

Modern amenities such as energy-efficient HVAC systems and smart home technology were discreetly integrated without compromising the home’s historic integrity. A grey-water recycling system and solar panels were incorporated to enhance sustainability, paying homage to the property’s agricultural roots.

The exterior spaces were equally considered, with the existing covered porch area restored to provide a transitional space between indoors and out. Native plants, including the property’s signature orange trees, were preserved and supplemented, creating a harmonious blend of cultivated and natural landscapes.

This project exemplifies our studio’s commitment to sustainable design practices and cultural preservation. It demonstrates how a historic farmhouse can be thoughtfully adapted to meet contemporary lifestyle needs while maintaining its essential Mediterranean character and deep connection to the surrounding landscape.
