Hotel Playas de Benidorm

The Hotel building is a thirty-three story tower with a Spa, semi-olympic indoor pool and 8,500 SF Conference space that will complement the existing Hotel Poseidon Playa becoming The Playas de Benidorm complex. The new Hotel construction is located along the Beach of Benidorm’s iconic coastline and award winning promenade.

The building’s minimalistic geometry is functionally sculpted to maximize views of the Mediterranean, with each of its 290 rooms oriented to capture the panoramic seascape. The building’s environmental strategy is integral to its design. The facade system incorporates high-performance glazing and strategically placed shading elements, optimizing solar gain while maintaining transparency. Innovative photovoltaic balconies serve dual purposes, generating clean energy while providing outdoor spaces for guests. Additionally, the hotel implements a state-of-the-art grey-water recycling system, significantly reducing water consumption and enhancing the project’s overall sustainability profile.

The crown of the building is dedicated to wellness and leisure. A two-story spa occupies the uppermost floors, its duplex configuration allowing for double-height spaces that offer unparalleled views of the coastline. Adjacent to this, a rooftop infinity pool seems to merge with the horizon, providing guests with a sensory experience that blurs the boundaries between architecture and landscape.

As the lead architect, Gemma’s role encompassed coordinating with a sophisticated team of structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and other specialized consultants. This collaborative effort ensures that every aspect of the design is meticulously integrated. Additionally, I oversee the review and management of proposals from contractors and fabricators, maintaining the project’s vision throughout its development.

Construction is set to commence in fall 2024, with the tower anchoring a larger urban regeneration project along Benidorm’s waterfront. The Hotel Playas de Benidorm stands as a testament to the city’s evolving identity, bridging its past as a sun-and-sand destination with its future as a hub for sophisticated, sustainable, design-led tourism while respecting and enhancing the local urban landscape.

This project exemplifies our commitment to innovative, context-sensitive design in the hospitality sector, respecting and enhancing the local urban landscape while pushing the boundaries of sustainable architecture.
